Carbon Sequestration Laboratory

The Carbon Sequestration Component groups several projects in Biosystems Engineering:

  1. Predicting Environmental Cane Biomass
  2. Above-Ground Carbon Sequestration in the Rio Grande de Arecibo Watershed
  3. Quantification of Carbon Pools and Fractionation in RGA w/s
  4. Modeling Hydrologic and Sediment Transport Processes in RGA w/s
  5. Physiological Response and Spectral Reflectance of Environmental Cane to Enhanced CO2 Environment

Quantification of Carbon Pools and Fractionation in RGA w/s
Above-Ground Carbon Sequestration in the Rio Grande de Arecibo Watershed

Objectives:

  1. Estimate the amount of organic carbon sequestered in the above-ground vegetation in the RGA watershed.
  2. Estimate the amount of biomass present in the different forest types as a function of life zones and rock formations.
  3. Assess biomass and carbon change between 1 or 2 periods of time through image analysis.
